Game Reviews

Steam Curation

Curation focuses on niche games that often get overlooked such as rpgs, kickstarters, and indie games, but also includes some others that don't really fit the genre but that really stood out (including AAA).

The Age of Decadence

2015

IRON TOWER STUDIO

Age of Decadence is a hardcore RPG; primarily a text adventure, it is supported with isometric exploration and combat. The first release by indie developer Iron Studio, this game features amazingly an amazingly well developed world and lore, and non-combat elements that AAA developers could learn from.

Ash of Gods: Redemption

2018

AURUMDUST STUDIO

Ash of Gods: Redemption is a Tactical RPG with some really beautiful artwork and an impressive soundtrack. It's chock full of meaningful choice & consequence roleplaying. A supreme debut for indie developer AurumDust Studio.

Battletech

2018

HAREBRAINED SCHEMES

BattleTech is a thinking man's strategy game. If you enjoy choice and consequence and aren't afraid of a tough game that makes you pay for your mistakes, give it a go. No guts, no galaxy!

Cabals

2011

KYY GAMES

Cabals is a free-to-play digital collectible card game by Kyy Games. Like most CCGs, Cabals appears to be heavily influenced by Magic: The Gathering. However, Cabals is no M:TG clone. Its key difference is the inclusion of a tile-based strategic board, which also incorporates board- rather than card-based resource gathering, card-tile interactions, and domination points. ‚Äč

Civilization VI

2016

FIRAXIS GAMES

The latest release from the epic strategy series. This game isn't for the faint-hearted. This review mostly consists of an in-depth exploration of the changes to the game.

Divinity: Original Sin II

2017

LARIAN STUDIOS

Divinity: Original Sin II is an epic 100+ hour RPG that is not for the faint of heart. There is very little hand-holding and the learning curve is steep, but the reward is a CRPG that gives you an immense sense of freedom and a level of self-efficacy that is comparable with pen & paper adventures.

Dragon Age: Origins (Ultimate)

2010

BIOWARE

Dragon Age: Origins is the 2009 release by role-playing giants Bioware. It's a fantasy RPG with heavy demonic themes. Although dated, the graphics still stand up to modern expectations. The spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, this is easily one of the best CRPGs I've ever played.

HyperRogue

2015

ZENO ROGUE GAMES

HyperRogue is a fun roguelike game by indie developer Zeno Rogue. It includes all the normal roguelike features such as procedural generation, turn-based gameplay, tile-based graphics, and perma-death, but has the unique claim of being set on a hyperbolic plane.

Mordhau

Coming soon!

Pathfinder: Kingmaker

2018

Owlcat Games

A monstrous fantasy RPG I happy burned ~100 hours on. Kingdom manager was a nice addition.

Primordia

2012

WORMWOOD STUDIOS

Primordia is a retro-style point-and-click adventure game set in a cyber-punk post-organism world and the first commercial release by indie developer Wormwood Studios. Absolute ripper game that does justice to the classics.

Tyranny

2016

OBSIDIAN ENTERTAINMENT

A delightful isometric RPG that returns to character development and decision making roots and lets you play as the bad guy.

UnderRail

2015

STYGIAN SOFTWARE

Underrail is a retro-style isometric RPG and the first release by indie developer Stygian Software. An absolutely monstrous 80-100 hour RPG with incredibly well developed combat and loot/crafting systems.
